The term handbag dates back to the early 1900’s. It may be hard to swallow for the guys out there to know that at first, a handbag referred to men’sluggage. During that same period, ladies bags began to develop progressively with added compartments etc.., and ever since, ladies had taken over the term handbag. In the mid-twentieth century, (in the USA) pocketbook was the term used to describe a ladies handbag. I often wonder if this term will resurface and become fashionable again? I quite like the ring of it Pocketbook.
