Day Four featured standout collections from global designers like Russia’s Viva Vox, who pushed boundaries with experimental styles, and DFW member Lama Jouni, who flawlessly combined streetwear with luxury. CHOICE’s 1970s-inspired Spring/Summer collection, Riva’s flowing kaftans, and Michael Cinco’s opulent couture gowns added depth to the day’s offerings. Beyond the runway, the exclusive Buyers Programme facilitated meaningful connections between designers and international buyers, reinforcing DFW’s importance on the global fashion stage.
A Revolution in Fabric Innovation: Exploring Four Decades of Material Breakthroughs with Stone Island
Material innovation is one of humanity’s earliest triumphs, dating back to prehistoric times when ancient civilizations first began to manipulate natural resources into functional tools and clothing. Today, material innovation has advanced exponentially, particularly over the last four decades, where technology has enabled scientists and designers to engineer fabrics that are not only more durable but also responsive to environmental stimuli. This progress is driven by the need for functionality, sustainability, and performance, reshaping industries like fashion, architecture, and technology. As a menswear designer and founder of POTRO, I’ve closely studied these developments, which is why Stone Island’s latest archival exhibition, Material Research ‘984 – ‘024, held at Holt Renfrew in Montreal, is a landmark in the exploration of fabric technology. Featuring groundbreaking materials like metallic fibers and thermo-sensitive fabrics, this exhibit showcases Stone Island’s unparalleled dedication to fabric experimentation.
